Definition

Quantifying GHG Reductions is a procedure for compiling and reporting an aggregate GHG reduction from a GHG Project. The following is according to [1]

  • The standard reporting unit is in tonnes of CO2 Equivalent, denoted as (t CO2eq)
  • The GHG reduction is the sum of annual GHG Project Activity reductions PAt for the time horizon of the project
  • The time period unit is a year (t)
  • The project activity index is (z)
  • The primary effect index is (p)
  • The secondary effect index is (s)

\mbox{GHG Reduction} = \sum_t \mbox{PAR}_t

Project Activity Reduction (PAR)

\mbox{PAR}_t = \mbox{Primary Effects}_t + \mbox{Secondary Effects}_t

Primary Effects

Primary Effects is the delta (absolute reduction from baseline emissions) induced by the project activity emissions (PAE)

\mbox{PE}_t = \sum_p \mbox{BE}_t - \mbox{PAE}_t

Annual Quantification of GHG Reduction

\mbox{R} = \mbox{BE}  -\mbox{PE}

Where:

  • \mbox{R} are the Annual GHG reductions for the entire GHG project
  • \mbox{BE} are the total annual baseline emissions for all the GHG project's primary effects
  • \mbox{PE} Total annual GHG project emissions

Annual Baseline Emissions

\begin{align}
\mbox{BE} &= [\mbox{Process Emissions}] + [\mbox{Combustion Emissions}]  \\
                    & = [C_y \mbox{CF}_b \mbox{EF}_p ] + [C_y \mbox{CF}_b E \mbox{EF}_c]
\end{align}

Project Emissions

\begin{align}
\mbox{PE} &= [\mbox{Process Emissions}] + [\mbox{Combustion Emissions}]  \\
                    & = [C_y \mbox{CF}_p \mbox{EF}_p ] + [F_y \mbox{CF}_b \mbox{EC}_c \mbox{EF}_c]
\end{align}
