Definition

An energy performance certificate (EPC) is a rating scheme to summarise the energy efficiency of buildings. It is an example of a growing collection of Sustainability Labels And Standards.

Such certificates are produced by energy assessors, a type of civil engineering technician who determine the energy performance of buildings. The EPC Rating indicates the estimated energy consumption of a property.

Issues and Challenges

  • Energy labelling is highly jurisdiction specific
  • Not to be confused with an Energy Certificate, which is a transferable record or guarantee (Certificate) related to the amount of Energy or material goods consumed by an Energy Transformation process.
