Definition

Tone From The Top is an expression frequently used in the context of discussing Risk Culture in a hierarchical organization.

The expression highlights a consensus that soft aspects (as distinct and complementary to formal / legal arrangements) of the behavior of senior management or other senior stakeholders may have a significant impact on the corresponding behavior of staff. In turn this impacts the ability of an institution's Risk Management to manage the variety of risks it is exposed to.
