Definition

No Net Loss or Net Gain. A target for a development project in which the impacts on biodiversity caused by the project are balanced or outweighed by measures taken to avoid and minimise the project’s impacts, to undertake on-site restoration and finally to offset the residual impacts, so that no loss remains. Where the gain exceeds the loss, the term ‘Net Gain’ (NG) may be used instead of No Net Loss.
