Definition

Credit Risk Insurer. It is an entity which offers to insure Credit Risk and, normally, political risks in relation to one obligor, transaction, portfolio, or continuing line of specified trade transaction or obligors.

Such entities may be either private organizations or public or semi-public institutions such as ECAs.
