Definition

Out of Sample Testing is the label of one of the most powerful quantitative means of Model Validation in the pre-implementation phase.

Methodology

Out of Sample Testing relies on separating the total data set and restricting model development to the use of a sub-sample only. The sub-sample can be restricted in the time-dimension but also other dimensions.
