Visualization Types denotes the variety of different representational forms available to express.

Categorizing visualizations in not an exact science and there are several possible dimensions

  • The nature of the data (temporal, categorical, numerical etc.)
  • The relationships between different data dimensions
  • The mapping from data space into visualization space
  • Aesthetic choices in constructing the represenation
  • The objective of the visualization
