Definition

Stakeholder Engagement. An ongoing process of interaction and dialogue between the undertaking and its stakeholders that enables the undertaking to hear, understand and respond to their interests and concerns.

In the context of Project Finance and the Equator Principles it refers concretely to the provisions of the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability on external communication, environmental and social information disclosure, participation, informed consultation, and grievance mechanisms, including, to the extent relevant, Free, Prior and Informed Consent of Indigenous Peoples.
