Merchandise Line

Definition

Merchandise Line. Census Bureau term used to describe the breakdown of retail-trade sales into the types of goods being sold. Beginning with the 2002 Economic Census, “product line” has replaced “merchandise line” as the term used for retail sales by type of product.[1]
