Note: a 2006 version of Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision has now been issued.

This paper presents a comprehensive set of twenty-five Core Principles that have been developed by the Basle Committee as a basic reference for effective banking supervision. The Principles are designed to be applied by all countries in the supervision of the banks in their jurisdictions.

This version supersedes the document issued for consultation in April 1997.
