In a statement posted on the companys website, Works founder Richard French writes, I regret to inform you that, despite stringent security and precautions, we believe that The Works Bakery Cafe has fallen victim to cybercrime, a rapidly escalating crime against business. On or about January 14, 2013, we believe a malware program infected our point of sale computer systems. The Works Bakery Cafe does not store credit or debit card information; we believe that the malware was designed to gather the information directly from the cards as they were swiped. (English)
