In a plea agreement, Imelda Arredondo, 37, of Rio Rico, admitted on Tuesday to two counts conspiracy to defraud the government and aggravated identity theft. Her sister, Yadira Moreno, 34, of Nogales, pleaded guilty toone count of conspiracy to defraud the government. According to the plea agreement, between 2009 and 2011, Arredondo filed federal income-tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service that contained false refund claims totaling at least $186,561. She did this, prosecutors said, by taking legitimate income-tax returns of her clients and inflating their wages, adding fake dependents and using false filing statuses to boost their tax returns all without their knowledge. Then shed pay the clients their legitimate refund after skimming off the inflated amount. (English)
