Definition

Visualization (implied Data Visualization) is the generation of visual displays of quantitative data. Visualization is an important component of Data Science.

Usage

Visualization can be of immense value in inspecting qualitative relationships between variables (e.g., scatter plots, Q-Q plots, histograms), overall model performance (power curves) etc. There is large variety of possible Visualization Types.

Issues and Challenges

  • Visual display of information, even while powerful can hide or misrepresent information with the unintentional or intentional abuse of the technique (use of wrong scales, misleading areas or volumes
  • Excessive focus on appearance versus substance
