Definition

Risk Data Instance is a service that provides access to a specific Risk Data Dataset.

Structure

  • The content of a risk data instance might be described by one or more risk data schemas
  • The data content of the data instance comprises of one or more Risk Data Types

Examples

  • a hard disk filesystem with specified directories holding the required data in various file formats
  • a database (server) that provides access to data via applications or other API's
  • a web service that provides access to risk data over a network
  • a spreadsheet that holds and provides access to data via an application

Issues and Challanges

  • Poor Data Governance may lead to multiple conflicting sources of data (lack of Golden Source)
  • Spreadsheets are notoriously difficult to manage consistently across teams and over time, an example of incomplete Data Provenance
