Definition

Demand Guarantee. It is a type of guarantee that is payable immediately upon presentation of the specified documents, without regard to the validity of the documents or compliance with the underlying contract,as opposed to an ancillary guarantee. It is also called an independent guarantee.

Although there are separate rules of practice for demand guarantees and letters of credit, both of them are considered letters of credit under USA law.
