Definition

A Data Dictionary is any formal enumeration of the meaning of a collection of Risk Data.

The format of such a dictionary can be:

  • a spreadsheet attached to or bundled with a dataset
  • an explanatory document attached to a Dataset
  • a more formally specified Risk Data Schema.

Official Data Dictionaries

Regulatory Authorities or Industry initiatives may publish data dictionaries in connection with reporting requirements of financial institutions, disclosures of information about the financial system or recommendations as part of promoting best practices
