Definition

A Credit Analyst (also Credit Risk Analyst) is an individual formally responsible for the performance of Credit Risk Analysis.

Roles and Responsibilities

A credit analyst uses the concepts, tools and processes that are associated with the organized extension of credit (e.g., lending) by an organization. The objective is to evaluate qualitative and quantitative aspects of credit risk and thereby support decision making (Credit Origination, Credit Portfolio Management).

A credit analyst would typically not have approval authority themselves, this would be performed e.g. by a Credit Controller
