Definition

A Cohort is as statistical concept indicating that a group (collection, set) of subjects or entities are sharing a defining Characteristic or attribute

Methodology

Creating cohorts involves the assigning of individual entities according to some mathematical procedure. The particulars depend on the nature of characteristic being considered.

Examples

  • Temporal Cohorts: Entities that share a common Event, e.g. a Time Instant. This is an example of constructing cohorts along a one-dimensional characterstic.
  • Spatial Cohorts: Entities that share a common spatial designation. This is an example of constructing cohorts along a two-dimensional characteristic.
