Definition
ArchiMate is an Open Source modeling language targeting enterprise architecture modeling. It is a language to support the description, analysis and visualization of architecture within and across business domains.
ArchiMate is similar but distinct from from other modeling languages such as Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Business Process Modeling and Notation (BPMN) by its enterprise modelling scope. UML and BPMN are bigger specifications, containing about 150 (UML) and 250 (BPMN) modeling concepts. ArchiMate works with about 50 elements.
