At higher and specialist practitioners levels, there are consultant biomedical scientists, consultant medical laboratory practitioners in all the sub disciplines of the profession, such as consultant biomedical scientists in haemostasis and thrombosis; consultant biomedical specialists in cytopathology etc etc In postgraduate specialist training there is Fellowship training for specialization for practice at consultant cadre, which is obtainable in the UK, Nigeria and other West African countries as approved by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO). In the USA, there is the Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science training program for consultant practitioners.
